Employee recognition software, UK

Employee recognition for UK teams, with HMRC handled

Most recognition software is American, priced per seat in dollars and silent on HMRC. Mojo Gift runs employee recognition for UK employers as a managed programme: invoiced in GBP, documented for payroll, and built around the trivial benefits and long service award rules.

How employee gifts and awards are taxed in the UK

Trivial benefits. A gift is exempt from tax and National Insurance when it costs you £50 or less to provide, is not cash or a cash voucher, is not a reward for the employee's work or performance, and is not in their contract. Directors of close companies are capped at £300 of trivial benefits a tax year.

The performance catch. A thank-you for hitting a target is a reward for performance, so it is not a trivial benefit even at £20. Most employers cover performance and milestone rewards through a PAYE Settlement Agreement, so the employee never sees a tax charge and payroll has one annual figure to settle.

Long service awards. A non-cash award is exempt when the employee has at least 20 years of service, the award is worth less than £50 per year of service, and they have had no long service award in the previous 10 years. HMRC's own example is a non-cash award of up to £1,000 at 20 years.

Everything else. Gifts outside these exemptions are taxable benefits: reported on a P11D with Class 1A National Insurance, or settled by the employer under a PAYE Settlement Agreement. Annual parties have their own £150 per head exemption.

This is general information as of the 2026 to 2027 tax year, not tax advice. Your payroll provider or accountant decides how each reward is treated.

£50
cost limit for a trivial benefit that is not a reward for performance
20 years

How Mojo runs recognition for your UK team

Agreed once with payroll, chosen by each employee, documented for HMRC.

01

Map occasions to the rules

We set reward values per occasion with you: under £50 where a trivial benefit applies, long service awards inside the per-year limit, and performance rewards flagged for your PAYE Settlement Agreement.

02

Each employee chooses, a concierge delivers

A dinner in Manchester, a weekend in the Lakes, a course, a product delivered home. The recipient chooses, the concierge books it, and the reward never expires.

03

Payroll gets one clean record

Every reward carries the value, the occasion and the recipient, so your payroll provider can book it as exempt, on the P11D or in the PSA without chasing anyone.

Why UK employers choose Mojo

Built for the rules you work under and for the people you employ elsewhere.

Priced per Moment, in GBP

No per-seat licence in dollars. You pay for the recognition you send, invoiced in pounds, with gifts funded at face value.

HMRC documentation included

Each reward comes with the record payroll needs for trivial benefits, long service awards, P11D or a PAYE Settlement Agreement.

Long service awards that mean something

An experience the employee chose at 20 years, inside the exemption, instead of a plaque or a catalogue voucher.

One programme beyond the UK

The same programme covers your colleagues in Ireland, the Netherlands, Germany and 190+ countries.

What makes Mojo different for UK employers

Built around the person receiving the reward, and the person running payroll.

The employee decides

Not a catalogue and not a points shop. Their experience, their place, their people.
No other provider does this

A human concierge

A person books it and looks after the details, in English or 49 other languages.

No expiry. Ever.

A reward should not come with a deadline.
Industry-first

Every milestone tracked

The Occasions Engine flags each anniversary, including the 20-year long service mark, before the date.

Employee recognition in the UK, answered

Are employee gifts taxable in the UK?

Not when they qualify as trivial benefits: £50 or less to provide, not cash or a cash voucher, not a reward for work or performance, and not contractual. Outside that, a gift is a taxable benefit reported on a P11D or settled through a PAYE Settlement Agreement.

Is a reward for hitting a target a trivial benefit?

No. A reward for the employee's work or performance is excluded from the trivial benefits exemption whatever it costs. Employers usually cover these through a PAYE Settlement Agreement so the employee is not taxed.

When is a long service award tax free?

When it is non-cash, the employee has at least 20 years of service, the award is worth less than £50 per year of service, and they have not had a long service award in the previous 10 years. HMRC's example is a non-cash award of up to £1,000 at 20 years.

Does Mojo Gift invoice in pounds?

Yes. UK employers are invoiced in GBP. The programme is priced per Mojo Moment, with gifts funded at face value, so the cost follows the recognition you send rather than your headcount.

Can we run recognition for staff outside the UK too?

Yes. One programme covers the UK and every other country you employ people in. See recognition across Europe.

Is this tax advice?

No. It is a plain-English summary of the main HMRC rules as of the 2026 to 2027 tax year. Your payroll provider or accountant decides how each reward is treated.
