Employee recognition in France, within the URSSAF rules on cadeaux et bons d'achat
In France, gifts to employees are the CSE's territory and the URSSAF tolerance is specific: 5% of the monthly social security ceiling per employee per year, a fixed list of events, and nothing in between. Mojo Gift runs employee recognition for employers with people in France as a managed programme, invoiced in EUR, with documentation for every gift.

How employee gifts are treated by URSSAF in France
The 5% tolerance. Gifts and vouchers (cadeaux et bons d'achat) given by the CSE, or by the employer directly in certain cases, are exempt from social security contributions by ministerial tolerance when the total given to an employee in a calendar year does not exceed 5% of the monthly social security ceiling, which is €200 in 2026. Below that, URSSAF does not ask what the gift was for.
Above €200, the event list applies. If the year's total is higher, contributions are due unless three conditions are met for each gift: it marks an event on URSSAF's list (a birth or adoption, a marriage or PACS, retirement, Mother's Day and Father's Day, Sainte-Catherine and Saint-Nicolas, Christmas for employees and for children up to 16, and the rentrée scolaire for children under 26), its use is tied to that event, and its amount is within 5% of the ceiling per event per year. Christmas allows 5% for the employee and 5% per child; the rentrée 5% per child. A work anniversary is not on the list.
It is not a franchise. URSSAF's own words: if the threshold is exceeded, the whole amount is subject to contributions, not just the part above it. A voucher must also state what it can buy, which store departments or which shops; for events other than the rentrée, "all departments except food and fuel" is accepted.
Who gives the gift. From 50 employees the CSE manages social and cultural activities, so most recognition gifts in France run through it or alongside it. URSSAF has also ended the seniority criterion for CSE benefits: employers have until 31 December 2026 to stop conditioning them on length of service. The médaille d'honneur du travail has its own rules on the same URSSAF page.

How Mojo runs recognition for your French team
Agreed once with payroll and the CSE, chosen by each employee, documented for the DSN.
Map occasions to the tolerance and the list
We set occasions and values with you: small moments inside the €200 a year, Christmas and the listed events on their own thresholds, and anniversaries and larger milestones planned as rewards that carry contributions. Your payroll provider confirms the treatment.
Send four fields, we flag the dates
Name, occasion type, date and work email, held under a signed DPA and GDPR. The Occasions Engine flags each milestone before it happens, so the CSE and payroll see the year in advance.
Each person chooses, a concierge delivers
A dinner in Lyon, a weekend in Brittany, a course or a product delivered home, chosen in French. A human concierge delivers the Mojo Moment by email with a personal message, and payroll receives the value and date for every gift.
Why it works for employers in France
Built for a payroll team that has to classify every gift.
A record for every gift
Recipient, value, occasion and delivery date, generated when the gift is issued and exported in one file, so each gift can be set against the tolerance or the event list.
Non-cash, the amount never shown
The recipient chooses an experience or a product, never cash, and never sees what was spent. Your payroll provider decides how each gift is classified.
Easier with the CSE
One written scheme with clear occasions, values and a defined set of data is a simpler conversation with a CSE than a different supplier per site.
One programme for staff abroad too
The same programme covers colleagues in Belgium, Germany, the UK and 190 countries, invoiced in EUR, with tax documentation for each country.
What makes Mojo different for French employers
Built around the person receiving the gift, and the rules around it.
The employee decides
A human concierge
No expiry. Ever.

Employee recognition in France, answered
Are employee gifts exempt from contributions in France?
Up to a point. URSSAF tolerates gifts and vouchers worth up to 5% of the monthly social security ceiling per employee per calendar year, €200 in 2026, without contributions. Above that, each gift must mark a listed event, be tied to it and stay within 5% per event, or contributions are due on the full amount.
Is a work anniversary gift exempt?
A work anniversary is not on URSSAF's event list. An anniversary gift can still sit inside the €200 annual tolerance; beyond that it is subject to contributions. Many employers plan 10 and 20 year rewards as taxed rewards from the start and keep the smaller moments inside the tolerance. Your payroll provider decides.
Does Mojo work with the CSE?
Yes. The CSE can run the programme, or the employer can run it alongside the CSE's own benefits. Either way there is one written scheme, one set of occasions and values, and one record per gift. Which route is right for you is a question for payroll and the CSE together.
Can we give a bigger gift at Christmas?
Christmas is a listed event with its own threshold: 5% of the monthly ceiling for the employee and 5% per child up to 16, each within the conditions on use. A gift the employee chooses, delivered by email in December, can be set up for that. Payroll confirms the treatment.
Can we limit gifts to employees with a year's service?
Not for CSE benefits. URSSAF has ended the seniority criterion and extended the compliance deadline to 31 December 2026. A recognition programme that marks milestones for everyone from day one is the simpler fit.
What does it cost?
€25 per Mojo Moment per year, from 50 Moments (€1,250 a year), invoiced in EUR, GBP or USD. Gift value is funded on top at face value. Setup within 48 hours, first gift within 7 days or month one is free, and a 30-day Standing Ovation guarantee. One-off campaigns are €6,250 per 250 Moments.
